Buying guide

How to choose a porcelain slab

Match the undertone first

Warm cream and gold-veined porcelain sits well with natural maple and white Shaker doors. Crisp white and grey slabs suit grey and navy Shaker. Take a sample home and hold it against your floors, walls and door colour before you decide.

Plan the veining before it is cut

Many porcelain slabs have bold, mirrored veining that looks best on an island or a full-height backsplash. We plan seams and vein direction in 3D so the pattern flows across every joint.

Think about everyday wear

Porcelain shrugs off heat and will not fade in a sunny kitchen. Its slim edge suits square or mitred profiles, and matte or silk finishes hide fingerprints better than high polish.

Porcelain FAQ

Common porcelain questions

How much do porcelain countertops cost in Kitchener?

Installed porcelain in Kitchener-Waterloo typically runs about $60 to $120 per square foot, depending on the slab, edge detail and cut-outs. We give you an itemized quote after a free estimate.

Is porcelain heat resistant?

Yes. Porcelain is fired at very high temperatures, so a hot pot will not scorch it and sunlight will not fade it. We still suggest trivets to protect your cookware and the surface finish.

Why is porcelain only 12 mm thick?

Large-format porcelain is made thin and very dense. The slim profile gives a clean, modern look, and we can mitre the edge for a thicker appearance on islands and waterfall ends.

Do you install the porcelain yourselves?

Yes. Our own team templates, fabricates and installs every countertop across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph, usually alongside the cabinets or vanity we build.
