Space Grey Shaker

Space grey is a deep, cool-toned grey — darker and more contemporary than a standard mid-grey, but softer and easier to live with than charcoal or black. It works as a full kitchen for a bold, cohesive look, or on the island and lower cabinets for contrast against lighter uppers.

The doors are solid maple on a plywood box — no particle board or MDF. Every cabinet includes dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hinges, concealed undermount roll tracks and adjustable plywood shelves. The matte painted finish is far more forgiving of fingerprints and smudges than a glossy door in a darker tone.

Light counters create the most striking contrast — white or pale-veined quartz makes space grey pop, and a waterfall edge looks especially modern. Brushed brass or matte black hardware suits the cooler tone, and a white or light-grey backsplash keeps the whole look balanced rather than heavy.

Darker matte cabinets show dust a little more than mid-tones, but far less than any glossy finish. Space grey's matte painted surface diffuses light instead of reflecting it, so smudges and fingerprints don't stand out the way they do on gloss doors. A quick wipe with a damp cloth keeps them looking sharp.
